After doing California Highway 1 solo, I was eager to explore the Sierra mountains and its many wonders. This route did not disappoint!
San Diego was my starting point and I headed first to Lake Isabella near Kernville and took the Sierra Highway north high in the middle of the Sierras. I had a military jet pilot scare the crap out of me as he flew in to the canyons with the steep walls, banking into the turns. This road leads you to 100 Giants, The Great Western Divide Highway which bring you to the 190 which is turn backs for miles.

This road leads you to a town called Springville and from there you can go North through ranch roads to connect to the south entrance of Seqouia National Park. Follow that to Grants Grove and then check out Kings Canyon. Kings Canyon is a dead end but there is a great camping spot at the end with BBQ and beers!
From here there is no direct route to Yosemite so you have to head out towards Fresno and then go north the south entrance of Yosemite Valley.
Camping is always tough to find in Yosemite Valley but I have always had luck at White Wolf Camp not the north rim.
From there I headed over the Tioga Pass to Mono Lake, be sure and stop at the Lee Vining Mobile Mart.. they have a gourmet chef there cooking up all kinds of wonderful foods. Heading north now on the east side of the Sierras on the 395 I went through Tahoe and then continued north to Mt. Lassen. I ended up taking the exact same route back south. It was so great I wanted to experience it all again.
